County Commission Minutes 04/28/99
COUNTY OF DUKES COUNTY                  COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

A regular meeting of the County of Dukes County Commissioners was held on Wednesday, April 28, 1999, at 7:30 p.m. at the Dukes County Courthouse, notice of such meeting having been posted as required by law.

Chairman Sibley called the meeting to order at 8:05 p.m.

Mrs. Borer addressed a proposal for Lot #1 at the Airport Business Park which is being recommended for referral to the Martha’s Vineyard Commission (MVC) based on the square footage exceeding the guidelines set forth in the Development Agreement between the M. V. Airport Commission and the MVC.  It was noted that the proposal is for a health & fitness center; 9,300 sq. ft.
Commissioner Sawyer made a Motion to make this referral to the MVC as recommended.
Commissioner Collins Seconded the motion.
Motion Unanimously Approved.

The minutes of the April 14, 1999, meeting were addressed.
Commissioner Collins made a Motion to Approve these minutes.
Commissioner Sawyer Seconded the motion.
Mrs. Borer noted a correction on page 06, paragraph 04, whereby the word “minimum” should be “maximum”, which was brought to her attention by Commissioner Leland.
Minutes were Unanimously Approved as amended.

Commissioner Flynn inquired of Sheriff McCormack as to whether there has been any development with regard to enforcing parking regulations along State Beach.
Sheriff McCormack indicated that he plans to address this matter at a meeting he will be attending next week, and will report back to the Commissioners.

County Manager’s Report:  Mrs. Borer reported that she has not been able to prepare a written report this month due to the fact that she has had limited use of her office.  She explained that jury members have utilized the office three out of four weeks.

Chairman’s Report: Chairman Sibley indicated that she had nothing to report at this time.

Subcommittee Reports: Commissioner Sawyer reported that a tentative date has been set within the next couple of days for the Proclamation Subcommittee to meet.

Commissioner Sawyer addressed the agenda for “An Important Island-wide Forum with the Commissioner of Education”.  He distributed and reviewed various documents prepared and addressed by the co-sponsors.  He noted that the League of Women Voters welcomed the opportunity to co-sponsor this forum and would like to be included in all planning activities of future meetings.  Commissioner Sawyer encouraged everyone’s participation.

Mrs. Borer reported that the first meeting of the Jail Study Committee is scheduled for May 10th at 6:30 p.m. at the jail.  She noted that the Committee consists of approximately ten members.

Commissioners addressed New Business: Sheriff McCormack requested permission to seek funding for an addition to the Communications Center.  He reviewed the plans for the proposed addition and addressed how the additional space would be utilized.  After further discussion,
Commissioner Flynn made a Motion to allow Sheriff McCormack to proceed with seeking a funding source for the plans as he presented for the purposes as discussed.
Commissioner Collins Seconded the motion.
Motion Unanimously Approved.

Meeting adjourned at 8:21 p.m.
